Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant was a French painter whose journey to Morocco in the late 19th century led to a personal fascination with the Orient. His huge canvases show images of a colonial Near East and also outline the French political ambitions of the day. While he was much praised during his life, his work has been more recently criticised as being stereotypical. With this in mind, the exhibition in Canada also includes works by contemporary female artists who were asked to respond to Benjamin Constant's works. A glimpse into the dark world of Goya’s monsters
A vision of a personal and private hell. That's what these remarkable and troubling drawings from the Spanish master reveal. The works were created in the last decade of Francisco de Goya life and were never meant to be seen beyond a small circle of close friends. Here we are taken into the private world of the artist, and it's often a tormented one. Goya's imagination is expressed through nightmares, paranoia and the difficulties of getting older. All roads lead to Asia for Art Basel Hong Kong
Art lovers, collectors, curators, critics and dealers will gather in Hong Kong next month for the third edition of Art Basel there. This year, the show, which has fast garnered a name as the most important art show in Asia, will feature 233 galleries from more than 30 countries and territories. One of the more interesting aspects is the "Discoveries" sector, which provides a space for emerging artists from across the globe to show off their talent. There will also be talks, including a conversation with the acclaimed Chinese painter Liu Guosong about his work. Art Basel Hong Kong runs from March 15 to 17. Labour dispute
