PlayStation has announced a new date for its PS5 launch event, where a range of games that will be available on the next-generation console are also expected to be revealed.
The event, called Future of Gaming, was originally due to take place on Thursday, June 4, however Sony cancelled it because of the global protests surrounding the tragic death of George Floyd.
The company said: "While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration. We want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”
When and how can you watch the event?
The new date is Thursday, June 11, with the event scheduled to begin at midnight UAE time and last for more than one hour.
The event will be streamed on official PlayStation channels on Twitch and YouTube, and its website.
The games that will be showcased during the event are not yet known, however the Xbox Series X game reveal last month offered a sneak peek at a few cross-platform titles that will debut on the PS5.
This included Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Madden NFL 21 and DiRT 5.
Gamers also eagerly await the release of Godfall, a PS5 exclusive from the makers of Borderlands.
The official announcement for the new event date offers some insight into what fans can expect from the event.
"This pre-taped programme will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second," the statement reads.
"This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.
"It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can – there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers."
No specific release date for the new console has been confirmed yet, but the launch is still set to go ahead later this year.
"[The pandemic is] obviously introducing a level of complexity any business would prefer not to have to deal with," Jim Ryan, the company's chief executive and president, told the BBC. "But we're feeling really good about the supply chain, we're going to launch this year and we'll be global."

Top tips
Create and maintain a strong bond between yourself and your child, through sensitivity, responsiveness, touch, talk and play. “The bond you have with your kids is the blueprint for the relationships they will have later on in life,” says Dr Sarah Rasmi, a psychologist.
Set a good example. Practise what you preach, so if you want to raise kind children, they need to see you being kind and hear you explaining to them what kindness is. So, “narrate your behaviour”.
Praise the positive rather than focusing on the negative. Catch them when they’re being good and acknowledge it.
Show empathy towards your child’s needs as well as your own. Take care of yourself so that you can be calm, loving and respectful, rather than angry and frustrated.
Be open to communication, goal-setting and problem-solving, says Dr Thoraiya Kanafani. “It is important to recognise that there is a fine line between positive parenting and becoming parents who overanalyse their children and provide more emotional context than what is in the child’s emotional development to understand.”
