New York nightclub Provocateur to launch in Dubai in December

If there’s one thing Dubai’s nightlife scene needs, it’s another glitzy nightclub... but wait, this one comes from New York.

Dubai already boasts esteemed after hours brands direct from international clubbing hotspots including Ibiza (Pacha, Blue Marlin), Saint Tropez (Villa Romana), Paris (VIP Room), Las Vegas (The Act), Beirut (Crystal, White, MusicHall) and London (Mahiki, Movida, Chinawhite, Cirque Le Soir...).

But what it doesn’t have, according to the team behind Provocateur at least, is a genuine slab of NYC nightlife.

Based on an intimate lounge in The Meatpacking District, Provocateur Dubai promises a new clubbing experience in which “all of its attributes sit in distinct contrast to the city’s existing nightlife landscape and is a truly unique version of its New York counterpart.”

Said New York base has reportedly attracted club sets from massive festival DJs including Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Axwell and Deadmau5, and as such the UAE incarnation is promising to become the “heart of electronic music in Dubai”, when it opens at the new Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach.

Other details are closely guarded at this stage, but we have been promised “surreal dollhouse imagery and state of the art lighting” and a design which “in totality radiates glamour and sophistication”.

The brand’s co-owner Brian Gefter said: “The growth of the industry here in Dubai is phenomenal. Our goal is simply to stay true to the Provocateur brand’s ethos and set the standard for a unique experience in the country.”

The club is expected to open in December.

The burning issue

The internal combustion engine is facing a watershed moment – major manufacturer Volvo is to stop producing petroleum-powered vehicles by 2021 and countries in Europe, including the UK, have vowed to ban their sale before 2040. The National takes a look at the story of one of the most successful technologies of the last 100 years and how it has impacted life in the UAE.
