Alabama back on the road

No farewell tour is complete these days without a reunion tour a few years later. A decade after waving goodbye, the country band Alabama are hitting the road again – this time to celebrate their 40th anniversary. "I just thought it would be a shame if we didn't make some kind of an effort to celebrate the 40th year, and what we do best is sing," said the vocalist Randy Owen. Alabama are going to play in several cities across the US. – Reuters

Chris Brown is back in court

It has been four years but apparently Chris Brown still hasn't paid his dues for assaulting Rihanna – he has been ordered to appear in a Los Angeles court. A judge said information was being gathered after allegations that Brown had cut corners on his community service requirement. Brown, 23, was sentenced to 180 days of community service and domestic-violence counselling when he assaulted Rihanna in 2009. The two have reportedly rekindled their relationship. – Reuters

4. Madonna to sell art for charity

Madonna is selling a painting by the French artist Fernand Léger to raise money for girls' education projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries. The 1921 painting, which the singer bought at an auction in 1990, will go on auction next month at Sotheby's in New York. "I cannot accept a world where women or girls are wounded, shot or killed for either going to school or teaching in girls' schools. We don't have time to be complacent," Madonna said in a statement. The move comes amid mounting controversy surrounding her plans to build 10 schools in Malawi, with reports of clashes over costs and mismanagement. – Reuters

No more lice

Defining head lice

Pediculus humanus capitis are tiny wingless insects that feed on blood from the human scalp. The adult head louse is up to 3mm long, has six legs, and is tan to greyish-white in colour. The female lives up to four weeks and, once mature, can lay up to 10 eggs per day. These tiny nits firmly attach to the base of the hair shaft, get incubated by body heat and hatch in eight days or so.

Identifying lice

Lice can be identified by itching or a tickling sensation of something moving within the hair. One can confirm that a person has lice by looking closely through the hair and scalp for nits, nymphs or lice. Head lice are most frequently located behind the ears and near the neckline.

Treating lice at home

Head lice must be treated as soon as they are spotted. Start by checking everyone in the family for them, then follow these steps. Remove and wash all clothing and bedding with hot water. Apply medicine according to the label instructions. If some live lice are still found eight to 12 hours after treatment, but are moving more slowly than before, do not re-treat. Comb dead and remaining live lice out of the hair using a fine-toothed comb.
After the initial treatment, check for, comb and remove nits and lice from hair every two to three days. Soak combs and brushes in hot water for 10 minutes.Vacuum the floor and furniture, particularly where the infested person sat or lay.
