Check out the Harlem seating cubes, made from moquette, the hard-wearing patterned fabric used to upholster the seats on London Underground trains. Each underground line has a different, vibrant pattern - designed to conceal dirt, no doubt - and you can find most of them here. I like the Roundel pattern best, designed by Eddie Chapman in 1947. It's a funky geometric repeat that incorporates the London Underground logo.

The museum has an archive of more than 5,000 original London Transport posters, many of which feature charming adverts for the likes of Kew Gardens or the rugby at Twickenham. I've got my eye on the London Zoo one, with colourful penguins marching across it. I might even treat myself to the matching mug, too. Who knew that public transport could be this much fun?

La Mer lowdown
La Mer beach is open from 10am until midnight, daily, and is located in Jumeirah 1, well after Kite Beach. Some restaurants, like Cupagahwa, are open from 8am for breakfast; most others start at noon. At the time of writing, we noticed that signs for Vicolo, an Italian eatery, and Kaftan, a Turkish restaurant, indicated that these two restaurants will be open soon, most likely this month. Parking is available, as well as a Dh100 all-day valet option or a Dh50 valet service if you’re just stopping by for a few hours.
