Filipino sisters Almira, Irene, Mylene and Celina Cercado – the girl group 4th Power – continued to impress during the latest episode of UK TV talent show The X Factor on Sunday.
In a round called the Six-Chair Challenge, the remaining 45 acts were competing for the final six spots on each of the competition’s four categories: boys, girls, over-25s and groups.
4th Power successfully snagged one of the six spots for groups with their performance of Christina Aguilera's dance-pop track Show Me How You Burlesque. Their performance, which received a standing ovation from all four celebrity judges, not only showcased their vocal abilities, but also their dance skills.
“It was absolute perfection for me,” said Rita Ora. “Literally – your voices, your ad-libs. You all had a moment to show off yourselves vocally. It was perfection. Thank you.”
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, 4th Power’s mentor, said: “You know what, I don’t think that you’re amazing – I think that you are phenomenal. You and I together can create magic.”
“How would you girls like to join the overs category?” quipped Simon Cowell, who mentors the over-25s. “I think you are actually amazing. I think you need some help in terms of the direction of music you should be singing. But I am thrilled you have chosen this show, this country to compete in.
“I think the British public are gonna fall in love with you.”
Before their performance, eldest sister Almira, 27, said: “We are going out there fighting for our dream.”
As 4th Power walked onto the stage, they were welcomed by roaring cheers from the live audience. The camera then focused on the sisters’ mother, seated in the audience, as she teared up.
“Thank you UK for welcoming us. We love you,” said 25-year-old Irene, the second-oldest sister.
The group now advances to the next stage of the competition, the Judges’ Houses, where the remaining 24 acts will battle it out for a spot on the live shows.
