Everyone who's anyone is wearing a logo T-shirt these days, so its irrefutable trend appeal makes it very tempting. But with a price tag of Dh1,400, I'm going to have to pass, because that's simply too much to spend on a cotton T-shirt – even if it's a Gucci one.
The T-shirt in question was unveiled on the Gucci Resort 2017 runway, and was inspired by a design from the archives of the fashion house. It’s nothing special – just a basic white T-shirt, printed with “Gucci” above the brand’s signature three-stripe emblem, in red and green, and double-G logo.
Gucci isn’t the only fashion house using its iconic logos on T-shirts – Dolce & Gabbana also launched its T-shirt range this month, with prices starting from Dh4,000.
While some social-media style stars are treating it as any other T-shirt, pairing it with denim shorts and other such casual additions, Chiara Ferragni recently wore the tee with a black suit. And while we certainly aren’t all blessed with the budgets – or connections, for that matter – of the world’s top-tier fashion bloggers, her style is quite easy to replicate.
With street-inspired, basic and affordable labels also being on-trend currently, the look can be imitated with any brand. Think Champion, Calvin Klein or even Old Navy. Wear a brand that you actually like, because there’s not much point flaunting a logo that you know nothing about. Wear the tee tucked into jeans, cigarette trousers or a pleated midi skirt, and throw on an oversized blazer or cardigan.
Jazz it up further with the addition of a statement choker or long, blingy earrings. For a casual lunch look, wear comfortable trainers, but if you’re heading to a special meeting where you’re looking to make a lasting impression, slip on a pair of pointy heels or platform brogues.
