Italy’s well-heeled set gathered at Dolce & Gabbana’s new dedicated atelier in the heart of Milan this season to witness the unveiling of the duo’s first ever Alta Sartoria collection.
Domenico and Stefano’s Italian equivalent to a men’s haute couture show brought to a climax a three-day extravaganza, which also saw the unveiling of the duo’s well-received women’s Alta Moda presentation and a separate high-jewellery event at Teatro alla Scala.
Decadent, desirable and destined to be worn by the globe’s wealthiest style savants in the coming months, Alta Sartoria sounded a much-welcomed declaration of intent by Dolce and Gabbana about their men’s couture ambitions.
Male models donned velvet jackets luxuriously weighted with gold thread and regal motifs, streamlined frock coats and sharply tailored three-piece suits. Alta Sartoria’s handcrafted footwear comprised jewel-tone opera slippers, bead-encrusted pumps, embroidered velvet evening slippers and exotic-skinned brogues. Meanwhile, accessories fit for a prince included ermine-fringed stoles, oversized mink mitts and decadent ear-flap hats fashioned from the softest pelts.
