Antonio Banderas - not satisfied with the exposure of being able to balance the role of a ruler of a made-up Middle Eastern country ( Black Gold ) with that of a suave talking cat ( Cat In Boots ) - has decided to reveal the secret of his success. His odour. That's the premise behind The Golden Secret, Banderas's 2011 signature scent that's described as "spicy, woody, leathery" in the press release that flung its way into our mailboxes earlier this week. I quite like this line from the accompanying document, because it isn't real English: " A fragrance designed for those special occasions... when forbidden and attraction go hand in hand" This "explosive cocktail" is what the perfume world terms a 'flanker' to Banderas's earlier fragrance The Secret, claiming that he left something out of that earlier formula and bottled it especially here. Perhaps that missing bit, the "golden secret" apparently, was an unlikely collision of apples and leather. If you do want to smell like an apple-picker's leather trousers, then The Golden Secret is in shops across the Middle East now.
