Backlash after Kris Fade supports #BigMacSelfie campaign

Just when you thought UAE’s favourite radio host Kris Fade could do no wrong – his fans have called him out for endorsing a fast-food chain.

Earlier this week, the Virgin Radio presenter posted his support for McDonald’s new #BigMacSelfie campaign on his Facebook’s public profile page.

“Yoo! Join me today as we take the biggest #BigMacSelfie ever! 1pm Zero Gravity Dubai! @McDonaldsArabia.”

Soon after, he was bombarded by followers about setting a bad example for children as obesity rates skyrocket in the country.

One follower commented: “Kris fade, this is so disappointing ... A real shame ... You have been promoting healthy food, workout and weight loss ... Now you are promoting the worst junk food ever.”

Another angry follower wrote: “This is an absolute disgrace. You’re a public figure in Dubai and with that honour comes a degree of responsibility. U should use ur status to promote things that help people. Classy. #krisfadedisgrace.”

The comments are still pouring in on his Facebook account, with the most recent backlash calling the host a part of the problem.

“I wouldn’t be caught dead in that selfie! Childhood Obesity is a serious problem in the UAE, yet fast food joints won’t stop promoting their poison using celebrities like yourself. Congratulations! You are part of the problem,” wrote one Facebook user.

That didn’t stop the host from turning up at the event at SkyDive Dubai on Tuesday.

@McDonaldsArabia tweeted: “Check out who joined us at Skydive Dubai! We are happy to have Kris Fade in our Big Mac Selfie event! #imlovinit.”

But Fade’s die-hard supporters on Twitter and Instagram came to his defence – they thought it was all in good fun and even took pictures with the celebrity host.
