Actress Alia Bhatt launches fashion line

The Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has designed a fashion line called Alia for the online store Jabong. The 21-year-old actress said her new-found love for fashion was thanks to the filmmaker Karan Johar, who cast her in Student of the Year, in which she played a style-conscious diva. "I didn't really understand clothes while I was overweight," she told The Times of India. "When I was auditioning for Student ... I lost weight and because my character Shanaya was so into dressing up and fashion ... because of that, I kind of got into loving fashion. Basically, Karan has a great influence on that and he has a great fashion sense. He tells me when I am wrongly dressed and when I am doing good." Alia hasn't abandoned acting – she is filming Shaandar with Shahid Kapoor. – The National staff

Jimmy Kimmel is a major threat to your computer

The late-night talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel is the most dangerous celebrity in the world – if you are searching online. The computer-security company McAfee says that a web search for him carries a 19 per cent chance of landing on a website that has tested positive for spyware, viruses or malware. Responding to the news, the host said on his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, that he could not believe that a kid who played the clarinet and carried a briefcase to junior high school grew up to be the most dangerous celebrity of 2014. Other celebrities McAfee says are particularly dangerous search targets this year include Ciara, Flo Rida, Bruce Springsteen, Chelsea Handler and Christina Aguilera. – AP

Who are the Soroptimists?

The first Soroptimists club was founded in Oakland, California in 1921. The name comes from the Latin word soror which means sister, combined with optima, meaning the best.

The organisation said its name is best interpreted as ‘the best for women’.

Since then the group has grown exponentially around the world and is officially affiliated with the United Nations. The organisation also counts Queen Mathilde of Belgium among its ranks.
