Angelina to direct Brad in new film By the Sea

A new film written and directed by Angelina Jolie, in which she stars alongside her partner Brad Pitt, is going into production. Jolie, 39, and Pitt, 50, were last on screen together in 2005's Mr and Mrs Smith, during which they fell in love. By the Sea marks the third time Jolie has directed. She is in post-production on the Universal Pictures production Unbroken, a drama based on the true story of the Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini, to be released during Christmas this year. The worldwide rights for By the Sea have been acquired by Universal. – The National staff

Alexandra Shipp to play R&B singer Aaliyah in film

Alexandra Shipp has very little time to get ready for her new role as the late R&B singer Aaliyah. The Lifetime spokeswoman Kannie Yu LaPack confirmed on Friday that Shipp will play the singer, who died in a plane crash in 2001. Shipp replaces Zendaya in the Lifetime biopic Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. Zendaya pulled out of production last month. The project was briefly halted, but filming will start later this month, leaving the 23-year-old Shipp little time to prep. She has played roles on the Nickelodeon show House of Anubis and the movie Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. The biopic will be released this autumn and will follow the multiplatinum-selling R&B star's career from a 10-year-old Star Search contestant to her death in a plane crash in the Bahamas at the age of 22. – AP

Priyanka makes an impact with first Mary Kom poster

Sans make-up and sporting a bloody face, the Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra packs a punch in the first poster for the biopic of the Indian boxer and ­Olympian Mary Kom. Accompanying the poster is a newly released trailer that shows a gritty Chopra entering the ring and taking her opponent down. Mary Kom is directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions. The film is due out in the UAE on September 4. – The National staff

UK court orders Glee name change in legal row

Glum news for Glee – the High Court in the United Kingdom ruled on Friday that the musical TV show must change its name because it breaches the trademark of a chain of comedy clubs. A judge told Twentieth Century Fox that it had to rename the series in Britain, though the order won't take effect until an appeal has been heard. The studio was sued by Comic Enterprises, which operates a string of venues called The Glee Club. Judge Roger Wyand ruled in favour of Comic Enterprises in February, saying there was a "likelihood of confusion" between the two brands. Fox said it would appeal and argued that ordering a name change would be unnecessary, unfair and ­disproportionate. – AP

Beyoncé exhibition to debut at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

A fashion exhibition centred on Beyoncé will debut at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in a section previously featuring only Hall of Famers. The Rock Hall announced on Friday that outfits from Beyoncé's Super Bowl performance and music videos will debut on Tuesday in the Ahmet Ertegun Main Exhibit Hall in its Legends of Rock section, next to iconic pieces from Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen. The 32-year-old Beyoncé would be eligible for induction into the Rock Hall as a member of Destiny's Child in 2022 and as a solo artist in 2027. The exhibit in Cleveland, Ohio, will feature Beyoncé's ubiquitous black leotard from her Single Ladies music video, as well as her body suit, skirt and jacket from her Super Bowl performance last year in New Orleans. The Rock Hall curator Meredith Rutledge-Borger said they had been trying to court Beyoncé "for a really long time". – AP
