Screen legend Richard Gere will be among the stars traipsing down the crimson rug at the Emirates Palace for the launch of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival this evening.
The 63-year old actor - best known for swoon-inducing turns in the likes of An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman and Sommersby - will be here to promote the opening night movie. Arbitrage. Gere plays a crooked hedge fund manager, trying to sell off his empire before the full extent of his fraudulence is revealed.
He’ll be joined on the red carpet by his co-star, Nate Parker, one of Hollywood’s most hotly-tipped talents, along with the film’s director Nicholas Jarecki, and producers Mohammed Al Turki, Brian Young and Kevin Turen.
An array of stars from Arab cinema will also be attending the gala, including Menna Shalabi, Bassem Samra, Elham Shahin, Carmen Lebbos and Jamal Soliman to name a few.
From the Gulf region, the likes of Ibrahim All Moulla, Mohammad Al Mansour and Abdel Aziz Jasimm are due to make an appearance.
Meanwhile, veteran Malayalam actor, director and producer Mammootty and his wife are also flying in from India especially for the festival opening.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
