'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'

Chadwick Boseman was awarded a posthumous Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his role as Levee Green in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. The film tells the story of Gertrude "Ma" Rainey (Viola Davis), who was one of the first generation of blues singers to record music, and her ambitious trumpet player Green (Boseman). Set in 1920s Chicago, the plot follows the tension that arises between Rainey and Green after a white production company signs the singer. The film is an adaptation of the 1984 play by August Wilson and highlights the white exploitation of black popular culture.
'The Mauritanian'

Jodie Foster picked up Best Actress in a Supporting Role as defence attorney Nancy Hollander in The Mauritanian. The legal drama is based on a 2015 memoir by Mohamedou Ould Slahi and tells the true story of his experience of being held in Guantanamo Bay for 14 years without charge. The film follows Hollander and her associate Teri Duncan (Shailene Woodley) working together to free him. The film is showing in cinemas around the UAE.
'Judas and the Black Messiah'

Judas and the Black Messiah nabbed Daniel Kaluuya the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award. He plays Fred Hampton, the chairman of Chicago's Black Panther Party. The biographical drama follows FBI informant William O'Neal as he infiltrates the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party to gather intelligence on Hampton. The film is showing in cinemas around the UAE.
'The Queen's Gambit'
Where to watch: Netflix
The Netflix Original picked up two Golden Globes: Best Limited Series and Best Actress in a Limited Series for Anya Taylor-Joy, who stars as chess prodigy Beth Harmon. The show focuses on her rise in the chess world while struggling with drug and alcohol dependency. The miniseries is based on the 1983 novel of the same name.
'The Crown'

The Crown is no stranger to picking up Golden Globe wins. Now in its fourth season, the show has been nominated every year since it was first broadcast. This year, it picked up acting awards for Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher. It was also named Best Television Series – Drama. The show chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II throughout the decades. The first four seasons are available on Netflix.
'I Care a Lot'
Where to watch: Netflix
Rosamund Pike picked up Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her starring role in Netflix's I Care A Lot. The dark comedy thriller follows court-appointed guardian and con artist Marla Grayson (Pike) who makes a living by convincing the legal system to grant her guardianship over elderly people when they cannot take care of themselves. Despite her careful scheming, her plans go awry when she accidentally gets involved with a dangerous gangster.
'Ted Lasso'
Where to watch: Apple TV+
The feel-good comedy about an American football coach who gets hired to coach a British football team in the English Premier League despite knowing nothing about the sport saw Jason Sudeikis pick up a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series, Music or Comedy as the titular Ted Lasso. The show’s first season, which comprises 10 episodes, can be watched on Apple TV+.
'Soul'
Where to watch: OSN Streaming App and cinemas
The Pixar film Soul picked up Best Animated Motion Picture and Best Original Score at the Golden Globes. Jamie Foxx voices Joe, a middle school band teacher whose life hasn't really gone the way he wanted. After a near-death experience, he gets stuck in the afterlife where he contemplates his choices and regrets the existence he took mostly for granted.
'The Trial of the Chicago 7'
Where to watch: Netflix
Aaron Sorkin nabbed Best Screenplay for The Trial of the Chicago 7, which tells the story of seven people on trial stemming from various charges surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. What was intended to be a peaceful protest turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organisers of the protest – including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale – were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.
