The Crown will return for one more season.
Despite initially claiming the fifth season would be the last, show creator and writer Peter Morgan has seemingly had a change of heart. The news comes six months after Netflix also confirmed the news of the show’s final season back in January.
"As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, series six will not bring us any closer to present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail," Morgan said in an interview with Deadline.
It also means that fans of the show will see the new Queen Elizabeth II, played by Imelda Staunton in the fifth and sixth seasons, follow her predecessors in getting to film two series.
While some were wondering where the show will end, season six is likely to take the story up to the Queen's reign into the 21st century, meaning there won't be any storylines featuring Meghan Markle. However, previously, we made our predictions about where we thought the show could end, including after Princess Diana's death or leading up to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Although season four has already been filmed, the release date has yet to be announced by Netflix. There's speculation it will air in November.
The hit Netflix series charts the British monarch's long-standing reign from her formative years to modern day. However, because it covers such a long stretch of time, actors and actresses are recast every two seasons. Claire Foy played the Queen in the first two seasons, while Olivia Colman took over in seasons three and four.

December 2: 11am, Dubai. New Supreme Council formally elects Sheikh Zayed as President. Treaty of Friendship signed with the UK. 11.30am. Flag raising ceremony at Union House and Al Manhal Palace in Abu Dhabi witnessed by Sheikh Khalifa, then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
December 6: Arab League formally admits the UAE. The first British Ambassador presents his credentials to Sheikh Zayed.
December 9: UAE joins the United Nations.
