Renowned Pakistani television and radio presenter Tariq Aziz has died at the age of 84.
The TV veteran was admitted to hospital in Lahore with a critical illness on Tuesday night and died on Wednesday, his family have confirmed.
The cause of death has not been revealed.
Born in Jalandhar in 1936, his family migrated to Pakistan and settled in Sahiwal.
His career began in the 1960s with a slot on Radio Pakistan, before he went on to become the country’s first major television host, appearing on PTV's first transmission in November 1964:
His popular game show Neelam Ghar started in 1974 and ran for four decades. It was later renamed the Tariq Aziz Show.
As well as his work in presenting, Aziz was an actor and keen poet, performing on many radio shows and starring in television programmes throughout his career.
In 1992, he was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the Pakistani government for his services to the entertainment industry.
In the late 1990s, Aziz also took a step into politics, becoming a member of the National Assembly.
Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, led tributes to the star. “Saddened to learn of the passing of Tariq Aziz, an icon in his time and a pioneer of our TV game shows. My condolences and prayers go to his family,” he said.
Among those to pay tribute was Pakistani cricket commentator and YouTube star Shoaib Akhtar. “Heard the sad news of legendary anchor Tariq Aziz sahab this morning. May Allah make his journey onwards easy. He was the first face of Pakistan Television,” he tweeted.

How Filipinos in the UAE invest
A recent survey of 10,000 Filipino expatriates in the UAE found that 82 per cent have plans to invest, primarily in property. This is significantly higher than the 2014 poll showing only two out of 10 Filipinos planned to invest.
Fifty-five percent said they plan to invest in property, according to the poll conducted by the New Perspective Media Group, organiser of the Philippine Property and Investment Exhibition. Acquiring a franchised business or starting up a small business was preferred by 25 per cent and 15 per cent said they will invest in mutual funds. The rest said they are keen to invest in insurance (3 per cent) and gold (2 per cent).
Of the 5,500 respondents who preferred property as their primary investment, 54 per cent said they plan to make the purchase within the next year. Manila was the top location, preferred by 53 per cent.

Three ways to limit your social media use
Clinical psychologist, Dr Saliha Afridi at The Lighthouse Arabia suggests three easy things you can do every day to cut back on the time you spend online.
1. Put the social media app in a folder on the second or third screen of your phone so it has to remain a conscious decision to open, rather than something your fingers gravitate towards without consideration.
2. Schedule a time to use social media instead of consistently throughout the day. I recommend setting aside certain times of the day or week when you upload pictures or share information.
3. Take a mental snapshot rather than a photo on your phone. Instead of sharing it with your social world, try to absorb the moment, connect with your feeling, experience the moment with all five of your senses. You will have a memory of that moment more vividly and for far longer than if you take a picture of it.
How to increase your savings
- Have a plan for your savings.
- Decide on your emergency fund target and once that's achieved, assign your savings to another financial goal such as saving for a house or investing for retirement.
- Decide on a financial goal that is important to you and put your savings to work for you.
- It's important to have a purpose for your savings as it helps to keep you motivated to continue while also reducing the temptation to spend your savings.
