If you are one of the millions to have watched, and loved, the television shows Normal People or Killing Eve, it's likely that you will have found yourself distracted by a jolt of envy, as the characters check in to enviable European locations for quick on-screen getaways.
Well, the good news is you can make like Villanelle, Connell and Marianne – as soon as international travel restrictions are lifted – as sets that have been used in both Killing Eve and Normal People are now available to rent on Airbnb.
Check into Marianne's Italian holiday home from 'Normal People'
In the show (and Sally Rooney's original book of the same name), Connell arrives in Trieste, Italy, to join love interest Marianne, who he has an on-off (and very complicated) relationship with, at her family holiday home.
In reality the property is located just outside of Rome, 35 kilometres north of the city, to be precise, close to the village of Sant’Oreste. You, too, could check in to the grand farmhouse, which sleeps up to six guests in its two bedrooms, as it's available to book on Airbnb.
It is rented out in its entirety, which means you also get the pool featured in the show, to enjoy throughout your stay.
The property is popular, however. The next available dates are Wednesday and Thursday, October 14 and 15. After that, it is not free to book until July 8 and 9, 2021, and then July 16 and 17, with a few single-night stays in September also available.
To book the entire villa for the night in October this year, it will cost Dh198 for one guest, Dh368 for two, Dh714 for four and Dh1,060 for six. So, if a group of six friends check in and fill the property, it will cost just Dh177 each per night, including the service fee.
The property also has a generous payment system, allowing guests to pay part of the price now, and the rest later, with no additional fees, and cancellation for a Wednesday, October 14 booking would be free until Tuesday, October 13.
Make like Villanelle in Barcelona
The locations used in the third series of Killing Eve have been as impressive as the wardrobe and thrilling storylines. Arguably, the most striking property is the Barcelona apartment. (That is, aside from the mid-century home in episode two, which is meant to be in the Cote d'Azur, but is in fact Casa Paradiso, in Sant Andreu de Llaverneres near Barcelona.)
In the same episode, entitled Management Sucks, Villanelle relocates to a striking Barcelona apartment, which she is delighted to be moved into by Dasha, who "promised her the best".
And the "best" could be yours, for a few nights at least, as the striking home is also available to rent on Airbnb.
It is located on Plaza Lesseps in the elegant Gracia neighbourhood. The property is a classic and ornate, modernist, Art Nouveau-style home dating back to 1906. It sleeps up to four guests in its two bedrooms, and also boasts spacious dining and living rooms. It is a 10-minute walk away from Antoni Gaudi's famous Park Guell.
The Killing Eve show-runners are not the only ones to have chosen to film at the property. According to the Airbnb listing, famed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, as well as international filmmakers, Alan Parker and Wim Wenders, have also shot there.
The availability of the home is fairly open for the next few months. In fact, if getting to the Catalonian city is viable, you could check in tonight.
To stay immediately, it costs Dh1,068 per night, with a two-night minimum, a Dh227 cleaning fee and Dh336 service fee, totalling Dh2,699 for one or two guests for two nights.
For three guests, it is Dh1,275 per night, with the same extra fees, bringing it to a total of Dh3,113. For four guests, it is Dh1,478 per night, totalling at Dh3,519.

Citizenship-by-investment programmes
United Kingdom
The UK offers three programmes for residency. The UK Overseas Business Representative Visa lets you open an overseas branch office of your existing company in the country at no extra investment. For the UK Tier 1 Innovator Visa, you are required to invest £50,000 (Dh238,000) into a business. You can also get a UK Tier 1 Investor Visa if you invest £2 million, £5m or £10m (the higher the investment, the sooner you obtain your permanent residency).
All UK residency visas get approved in 90 to 120 days and are valid for 3 years. After 3 years, the applicant can apply for extension of another 2 years. Once they have lived in the UK for a minimum of 6 months every year, they are eligible to apply for permanent residency (called Indefinite Leave to Remain). After one year of ILR, the applicant can apply for UK passport.
The Caribbean
Depending on the country, the investment amount starts from $100,000 (Dh367,250) and can go up to $400,000 in real estate. From the date of purchase, it will take between four to five months to receive a passport.
Portugal
The investment amount ranges from €350,000 to €500,000 (Dh1.5m to Dh2.16m) in real estate. From the date of purchase, it will take a maximum of six months to receive a Golden Visa. Applicants can apply for permanent residency after five years and Portuguese citizenship after six years.
“Among European countries with residency programmes, Portugal has been the most popular because it offers the most cost-effective programme to eventually acquire citizenship of the European Union without ever residing in Portugal,” states Veronica Cotdemiey of Citizenship Invest.
Greece
The real estate investment threshold to acquire residency for Greece is €250,000, making it the cheapest real estate residency visa scheme in Europe. You can apply for residency in four months and citizenship after seven years.
Spain
The real estate investment threshold to acquire residency for Spain is €500,000. You can apply for permanent residency after five years and citizenship after 10 years. It is not necessary to live in Spain to retain and renew the residency visa permit.
Cyprus
Cyprus offers the quickest route to citizenship of a European country in only six months. An investment of €2m in real estate is required, making it the highest priced programme in Europe.
Malta
The Malta citizenship by investment programme is lengthy and investors are required to contribute sums as donations to the Maltese government. The applicant must either contribute at least €650,000 to the National Development & Social Fund. Spouses and children are required to contribute €25,000; unmarried children between 18 and 25 and dependent parents must contribute €50,000 each.
The second step is to make an investment in property of at least €350,000 or enter a property rental contract for at least €16,000 per annum for five years. The third step is to invest at least €150,000 in bonds or shares approved by the Maltese government to be kept for at least five years.
Candidates must commit to a minimum physical presence in Malta before citizenship is granted. While you get residency in two months, you can apply for citizenship after a year.
Egypt
A one-year residency permit can be bought if you purchase property in Egypt worth $100,000. A three-year residency is available for those who invest $200,000 in property, and five years for those who purchase property worth $400,000.
