Over the weekend, people have taken to the streets in major cities in America and around the world to protest the death of George Floyd as well as advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement. Celebrities such as Halsey, Ariana Grande, Nick Cannon, and Timothee Chalamet were spotted among those marching in solidarity across Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis and other cities but they weren't the only ones. Here's a look at other famous faces who were seen protesting:
Ariana Grande
The pop star spotted her trademark high ponytail and was seen at the LA protests walking with a #BlackLivesMatter sign. She tweeted: “Hours and miles of peaceful protesting yesterday that got little to no coverage. All throughout Beverly Hills and West Hollywood we chanted, people beeped and cheered along. We were passionate, we were loud, we were loving. Cover this too please.”
Tessa Thompson
The Thor star detailed her experience through her Twitter and Instagram story as she took part in the LA protest as well. She shared video of fellow protesters kneeling in the streets:
Nick Cannon
The Masked Singer host shared a number of black-and-white photos and videos of himself from Minneapolis. He wore a "Please I can't breathe" hoodie which echoed some of Floyd's final words in the video of his detainment. Here are just a few that he's uploaded from the event to his Instagram:
Halsey
The Without You hitmaker also took to the streets in LA. She took to Twitter and Instagram to share her experience which includes a scary video in which you can hear bullets being fired in the background:
She also gave a shout out to singer Yungblud, who she said “literally ran exposed in front of rounds being shot to drag wounded people to safety without even thinking twice”.
Timothee Chalamet
The Oscar-nominated actor was also seen at the Santa Monica protest and uploaded videos to his Instagram Story. He brought along a poster sharing the names of Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor and other victims of police brutality over the years. Kehlani
The singer was also in attendance for the LA protest and shared black-and-white photos from the event. She captioned one of the posts: “Live. No justice, no peace. Los Angeles May 30th 2020. Respect existence or expect resistance. #BlackLivesMatter outside inside today yesterday tomorrow and forever. Power to the people.”
Fiona Apple
The Grammy award winning singer marched in Santa Monica. In a video on YouTube, she’s seen protesting with a sign that reads “Cops: Don’t be white chauvinists. Arrest the other three!!!” while also chanting “black lives matter”.
John Cusack
The actor took part in protests in Chicago while on his bicycle. While filming a burning car, he claims that police with batons came towards him, telling him to get out of the area.
Machine Gun Kelly
The rapper took to the streets of Santa Monica twice. On Saturday, May 30, he was accompanied by fellow musicians Mod Sun and Yungblud at the demonstration. On Sunday, May 31, he uploaded a set of photos to Instagram showing him holding up a sign that reads "silence is betrayal."
Paris Jackson
The daughter of the late Michael Jackson sported a hippie-chic look while joining protesters in Los Angeles. She carried with her a sign that read "Peace. Love. Justice."
