The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's interview with Oprah Winfrey is shaping up to be one of the most televised events of the year.

In the interview with the veteran American talk show host, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped a number of bombshells including claims that there were concerns over Archie's skin colour and news that Prince Charles had stopped taking Harry's calls.

But for those wondering whether the couple received any monetary compensation for their brutally honest appearance, the answer is no.

At the start of the interview, Winfrey is seen saying, "Before we get in to it, I just want to make it clear to everybody that even though we’re neighbours, there has not been an agreement."

“You don’t know what I’m going to ask, there is no subject that’s off limits and you are not getting paid for this interview.”

“All of that is correct,” Meghan responds.

It's just one more shocking revelation in the two-hour special that touched upon numerous topics – including the abuse they faced at the hands of the British media and the toll it all took on their mental health.

Despite the fact they have not been paid for the interview, the highly televised event has been lucrative for the other parties involved. The Wall Street Journal reported that CBS paid a licence fee of between $7 to $9 million for the rights to the special.

As per reports, CBS also charged roughly double the price for advertising time during the interview.

The network also has the right to license the special in international markets, as per agreement between CBS and Winfrey’s production company Harpo Productions.
