Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to turn in its badge for the second time.
The popular US sitcom, set in a Brooklyn police precinct, will end after its eighth season, television network NBC has announced.
The Golden Globe-winning comedy, which first launched in 2013, stars Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Andre Braugher, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero and Joe Lo Truglio.
Set around a rag-tag bunch of NYPD staff in the fictional 99th Precinct, the series originally premiered on Fox, before the network cancelled the show after five seasons in 2018 to much fan backlash.
It was then picked up by NBC, which premiered a sixth season in 2019 and series seven in 2020.
The eighth and final season, which has been blighted by delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, is set to premiere in 2021, though a confirmed date is yet to be revealed.
The final series will consist of a shorter run of just 10 episodes, compared to season six's 18 and season seven's 13.
Last year, actor Crews confirmed that some previously scripted episodes would be rewritten in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a police officer in May 2020, to address issues of police brutality.
Star Samberg, who portrays detective Jake Peralta, also revealed the series would address the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
In the wake of the news that there would be no ninth season, the show's co-creator Dan Goor revealed he was "grateful it lasted this long".
"I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who literally saved us from cancellation. Fans who fill us with joy," he wrote on the Brooklyn Nine-Nine Twitter account.
"Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers."
Actress Fumero, who plays Amy Santiago, said being part of the show was “one of the greatest joys".
“I am so grateful to be able to take a victory lap with our beloved cast and crew. To our amazing fans, we love you. No tears for now, we still have a whole season to shoot," she added.
Crews tweeted he was "sad it will end, but happy to have had the chance to be a part of something so special".

Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa (ruled 1761-1793) Built Qasr Al Hosn as a watchtower to guard over the only freshwater well on Abu Dhabi island.
