American singer and actress Demi Lovato has opened up about her 2018 overdose for the first time.
The trailer for her new YouTube documentary series, Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil, dropped overnight, with some frank revelations about her past hospitalisation.
"I've had so much to say over the past two years, wanting to set the record straight about what it was that happened," Lovato, 28, says at the beginning of the trailer.
In 2018, the pop star was taken to hospital after she was found unconscious at her Los Angeles home. At the time, she had been six years sober, following treatment for alcohol and drug addictions.
The new documentary, which will air in March, reveals that she was minutes from death.
"I had three strokes. I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes," she says.
In an interview with AP, Lovato added that the overdose had left her with "brain damage", saying: "I still deal with the effects of that today."
Over the course of a year, the series documents the life of Lovato, tracking her road to recovery, sobriety, her 2020 engagement to Max Ehrich and their subsequent break-up.
It features people close to Lovato, including family members – her mother Dianna De La Garza, stepfather Eddie De La Garza and siblings – as well as international stars, such as Elton John and Christina Aguilera.

Hydrogen: Market potential
Hydrogen has an estimated $11 trillion market potential, according to Bank of America Securities and is expected to generate $2.5tn in direct revenues and $11tn of indirect infrastructure by 2050 as its production increases six-fold.
"We believe we are reaching the point of harnessing the element that comprises 90 per cent of the universe, effectively and economically,” the bank said in a recent report.
