For the second year in a row, Ramy Youssef has received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in eponymous comedy drama Ramy.

The Egyptian-American actor has been nominated for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, alongside Don Cheadle from Black Monday, Nicholas Hoult from The Great, Eugene Levy from Schitt's Creek, and Jason Sudekis from Ted Lasso.

Youssef won the Golden Globe for the same category in 2020, but lost out to Levy at the Emmy Awards for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. However, the show also took home a Peabody Award in 2020.

Ramy, the ground-breaking Hulu sitcom, proved to be popular in Hollywood and globally following its release in 2019. The semi-autobiographical series follows the story of an Egyptian-American Muslim who is struggling between his faith and community while growing up in New Jersey. The show also stars Hiam Abbass, Amr Waked, Laith Nakli, Mo Amer, and May Calamawy.

In its second season, Ramy guest starred two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. Ali played the role of Sheikh Ali, who tries to help guide Ramy on his spiritual journey. The series also had part of its production take place in Egypt, featuring Egyptian actors.

Speaking of the titular role he plays, Youssef said in an interview with The National last year: "Ramy is me without a passion, without perspective.

"He’s me with a family that talks less."

The show was renewed for a third season last year. Like the first two, it will consist of 10 episodes. While that is expected to come out this year, a release date has not yet been announced.
