British comedian Al Murray will perform at the Dubai Opera House for one night only on November 20. Murray, one of Britain's most popular comedians, has been filling arenas for the past 20 years. Known by his alter ego, The Pub Landlord, Murray has brought his act to Dubai on several occasions.
For anybody unfamiliar with Murray's work, in essence, it's stand-up comedy with a twist. He takes on the persona of a jovial, opinionated and proudly right-wing character who spouts his right-wing views.
In an earlier interview with The National, Murray said that he finds playing The Pub Landlord therapeutic. "It is therapeutic in the sense that I find certainty in others quite bewildering. Very often, people express very firm opinions about things, and I think that leads to all sorts of problems. I like being uncertain and being in a grey area about stuff, and The Pub Landlord is so certain about everything that he ends up being wrong about everything."
Also coming to Dubai Opera for the first time, on July 6, is Comedy Night, in association with Arabs Are Not Funny. The line-up includes Welsh-Egyptian comic Omar Hamdi, along with renowned comedians Prince Abdi, Karim Duval and award-winning Lebanese-British comic Esther Manito.
Jasper Hope, Chief Executive at Dubai Opera, said “With Danny Bhoy and Spamalot, we’ve already seen audiences loving hilarious comedy at Dubai Opera and here are two more great nights in prospect featuring a collection of the funniest Arab-British stand-ups next month and then the incomparable Al Murray in November."
Tickets will go on sale for Comedy Night on June 4 at 4pm, with prices starting at Dh95. There is an early bird offer of 20 per cent off the top two seat categories, where tickets start at Dh150, until 12 June.
