Abu Dhabi's Eithad Arena will be opening its doors this spring, with Disney's Frozen on ice set to be the first live show.
Taking place from Wednesday, April 15 to Saturday, April 18, musical favourite will be brought to life on ice for the first time, featuring all the characters and songs that have made Frozen so popular with families around the world.
"We are excited to be adding the internationally acclaimed show, Disney On Ice Presents Frozen, to Yas Island's events calendar, and look forward to welcoming families to the show at the upcoming Etihad Arena," says Nouf Al Boushelaibi, acting head of destination management department at Miral. "This addition will further boost our various entertainment offerings on the Island and support us in positioning it as a top global destination for entertainment and leisure."
As well as telling the story of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff, Disney On Ice Presents Frozen will feature appearances other Disney princesses, as well as favourite characters from Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Lion King, while Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be the show's narrators.
“Our goal is to showcase these heartwarming characters in a way that allows the audience to cheer and sing along throughout this emotional journey,” says director Patty Vincent.
The new arena is currently under construction on Yas Island's new development Yas Bay, and will be able to seat up to 18,000 people once completed. The name of the arena was revealed at the start of this year, announcing a partnership between developers Miral and Etihad Airways.
The arena will accommodate a variety of events including sporting competitions, corporate events, cultural performances, concerts, and many other activities throughout the year, and will offer a flexible capacity starting at 200.
Work on the Yas Bay development began back in 2017, and was said to be 75 per cent complete in October 2019. As well as the arena, the Dh12 billion mega project will feature dozens of cafes and restaurants, a pier, promenade, infinity pool, and even room for a metro.
The one million-square-metre Yas Bay area also includes a sprawling Hilton hotel, homes and the new headquarters of TwoFour54, the media free zone that operates from Khalifa Park.
