The Sound of Beirut: global artists come together for free virtual concert

A number of Sony Music artists are teaming up for a virtual fundraising concert to help the victims of the Beirut explosion on August 4.

The event, known as The Sound of Beirut, will take place on the Lebanese streaming app Anghami and Lebanon TV on Tuesday, September 8 from 10pm GST. Fans who tune in will be able to donate while watching the artists perform on the platform.

Alan Walker, and Craig David are among the international acts that will perform to help raise funds, with all proceeds going to the campaign Global Aid for Lebanon in collaboration with UN World Food Programme. Although the virtual concert is free to watch, fans can choose to donate on the event page.

Acts from the Arab world taking to the virtual stage including Balquees, Ragheb Alama, Mishaal, Maya Diab and Souad Massi.

"We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters impacted so heavily by this tragic explosion," said Anghami chief executive Eddy Maroun. "I would like to thank Sony Music, all the artists and our partners involved in this important fundraising initiative. The world has truly come together to support this cause, but we know more needs to be done so please tune in to see these fantastic acts, and give generously."

The event will run for roughly two hours and is free to stream.

The massive explosion in the Lebanese capital city killed at least 190 people and injured more than 6,000 as it decimated swathes of the city and rendered around 300,000 homeless.
