BTS loves to set records, and they show no signs of slowing down any time soon.

The popular Korean boy band have set another one on YouTube – this time, thanks to their music video Boy With Luv featuring Halsey. The music video surpassed 500 million views on Sunday, August 11 and became the group's seventh music video to do so (behind DNA, Fire, Fake Love, Mic Drop, Idol and Dope).

However, with Boy With Luv, they've now become the fastest Korean boy band to hit the milestone mark: the video was released on April 12 so it's taken just under four months to reach the impressive feat.

In addition to their newly set record, their song was also used in a spot for Spotify with Bollywood star Anil Kapoor. The short clip sees the actor dancing along to a “Korean Pop” playlist led by the BTS song:

And, not surprisingly, fans of the K-pop group couldn't have been more impressed with the quick spot:

It was announced last month that BTS will be performing in Riyadh in October as part of their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour. It will be the first time the group has performed in the kingdom. With news that the band will be in the region, their UAE fans also hope to see an appearance.

BTS has had a massively successful run the last couple of years. The seven-member band made history as the first Korean group to reach the top of the Billboard 200 chart – not once, but three times. They've also landed on Time 100's list of most influential people of 2019, had Mattel dolls created in their likeness and been offered a Recording Academy membership invite to help choose Grammy Award winners. They've also been given a star on the Dubai Walk of Fame.

The group first formed in Seoul in 2013 and broke through into the US pop market in 2017, becoming the first Korean group to win a Billboard music award. They’ve collaborated with the likes of Steve Aoki, Halsey and Nicki Minaj.

What the law says

Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.

“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.

“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”

If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.
