In a year that's seen most people stay at home owing to the global pandemic, it seems as though Taylor Swift has been making the most of her free time. On Thursday morning, she announced that she will release her ninth album Evermore, as well as a new music video Willow at midnight on Friday, December 11 – just two days before her birthday.
She's described Evermore as a "sister album" to Folklore. Ahead of the video's release, Swift will also be logging into the YouTube premiere page at midnight to answer questions from fans.
“Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now. You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something!,” she tweeted.
Back in July, Swift surprised fans earlier in the year when she released Folklore, her eighth studio album. It's since been nominated for Album of the Year and Pop Vocal Album of the Year at the Grammys. She also released a music video for Cardigan, her first single off the album.
In a tweet, Swift announced the release of Folklore, saying it was "an entire brand new album of songs I've poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into". The release comes less than a year after her seventh album, Lover, was released, in August 2019.
