Olivia Rodrigo makes history as youngest solo artist to top double UK charts

The brightest new pop star, Olivia Rodrigo, is having a very good week indeed.

The singer recently scored an official UK Chart Double with both her debut album Sour and single good 4 u both landing at the number one positions.

In doing so, she joins the likes of Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Madonna and Lady Gaga – but at 18, she also has honour of being the youngest person to do so.

However, her achievements don't stop there. Since its launch on May 21, Sour has had the "biggest opening week" for an album so far, with more than 51,000 in sales, according to the Official Charts Company. It is also the biggest opening week for a debut album in two years since Lewis Capaldi's 2019 album.

Meanwhile, good 4 u, has also debuted at No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, a fact Rodrigo shared with her 10.4 million followers on Instagram.

Rodrigo first stepped into the spotlight as an actress when she appeared on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark. However, she truly exploded onto the music scene earlier this year when her debut single drivers licence, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, less than two weeks since its release.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I expect all of this support," wrote Rodrigo in a post on Instagram to her followers at the time.

The actress and singer has thanked all her followers on Instagram again this week for all their help.

"Thank u to everyone who listened to Sour. This has truly been the coolest week of my life. So so so grateful," she posted.
