ABU DHABI // Last week it was Sebastian Vettel, but children will dominate at Yas Island this weekend as plans to make it the entertainment centre of Abu Dhabi for the rest of the year continue unabated.
Tonight from 6pm, the Jonas Brothers will take to the stage at Yas Arena, and thousands of teenagers are expected to swamp the island to see the American trio play such hits as Year 3000, Hold On and Burning Up.
Tomorrow and Saturday, from 10am, there will be a Kids Fun Zone with games and carnival rides, as well as the breakdancers Mighty 4 at the Yas Gateway Park.
There will also be an Alice in Wonderland themed parade at 4pm tomorrow at the Gateway Park on Yas Island. Tomorrow , from 7pm to 11pm, the Open Air Cinema will show the film Camp Rock, which features the Jonas Brothers, along with High School Musical.
On Thursday, November 25, there is a free party called Step Up for teenagers under 18, featuring live DJs, dance crews and talent scouts who are hopeful of finding the UAE's first supermodel.
The British rapper Tinchy Stryder and the Brit Award winner Taio Cruz will support Nelly Furtado on November 26, at Yas Arena. The promoters, Flash, have also organised a programme called Leave Your Mark on Yas, which consists of graffiti workshops. Beatbox performances and football skill demonstrations are also planned.
For the following UAE National Day weekend, the Flash Forum will host NBA Jamfest Abu Dhabi 2010 in a show running from 12 noon to 9pm, from December 2 to 4.
On the same dates, at Yas Plaza there will be an Arabic Village open from 12 noon until 9pm.
On December 9, the beats continue with Creamfields Abu Dhabi 2010. From 6pm until 4am, more than 20 international and regional DJs will take to the stage at the Yas Arena.
On the following day, Friday, Splash Out On Yas will run from noon until 9pm, where revellers from the night before will take over the Yas Plaza Hotel's swimming pools.
Rock legends Guns N' Roses will take to the stage on December 16.
On the following afternoon, celebrity chefs will hold cooking demonstrations in the Yas Plaza. On Saturday, December 18, there is a family golf day.
