'I am coming': Katherine Jenkins confirms Dubai Opera show will go ahead despite coronavirus cancellations

Katherine Jenkins said her Dubai Opera show is going ahead, despite the coronavirus outbreak continuing to threaten the UAE's large-scale events. The Welsh singer and actress, who is set to perform in Dubai on Wednesday, March 4, posted a message on Instagram yesterday stating her anticipation at the upcoming show. “Just a little message for all my friends in Dubai,” she said. “I am coming to the opera house and will see you on Wednesday night for my concert and I am so looking forward to it. So see you then.” Jenkins is one of three high-profile concerts to be held at the Dubai Downtown venue this week, with Filipina singer and actress Lea Salonga performing two shows on Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6. According to the venue’s website, those shows are still going ahead. In a recent interview with The National, Jenkins said she was excited at the prospect of singing at the Dubai location. “Ever since the Dubai Opera opened, it has been a place that I have been dying to perform on,” she said. “I know that the atmosphere and acoustics will be brilliant because one thing Dubai does is deliver everything to the highest quality.” Other concerts and large gatherings continue to be scrapped across the UAE due to protection measures against the virus. They include this weekend's Ultra Abu Dhabi dance music festival and the Saturday, March 21 K-pop concert, Music Bank , at Coca-Cola Arena. No new dates have yet been announced for either event. Singer Russ also postponed his Coca-Cola Arena show, originally slated for Saturday, March 27, with a new date of Friday, November 27.
