Want to know what tracks get the blood flowing in the gym? Spotify has the answer. The music streaming platform has released a report detailing what songs its users most listen to in the gym.
The figures have been extrapolated from the 43.5 million workout-related playlists used by the streaming giant’s nearly 191 million active monthly users.
Breaking it down by gender and time frame
Eminem's 'Till I Collapse is also the top workout song of all time, globally. The rapper's Lose Yourself tune from the 8 Mile soundtrack comes in second, followed by two Kanye West songs – Stronger and Power – and Can't Hold Us (featuring Ray Dalton) by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
These figures have been taken from playlists spanning Spotify's 12-year existence.
If we narrow it down to last year's listening habits, the music takes on a more current flavour. Drake's God's Plan was the top workout song, followed by Cardi B's I Like It.
When it comes to the men, 'Till I Collapse clocked up the most listens. As for the ladies, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars's Uptown Funk is the most-streamed workout song.
Breaking it down by age group
When it's broken down into age groups, it gets even more interesting.
Among 13 to 34-year-olds, Eminem's 'Till I Collapse ranked highly again. Unsurprising when you consider the song was used in 2014's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and as the entrance themes for American basketball team the Cleveland Cavaliers and boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Those aged between 35 and 45 continue to respect the classics, with 1982 anthem Eye of the Tiger by Survivor being the song of choice among this group. Most interestingly, among the 55-year-olds and over group, Meghan Trainer's 2014 single All About that Bass wins top spot.
Overall fitness habits
Spotify’s report also provides insight into its users' fitness habits. For instance, last year workout playlists were most used in the summer month of July. November saw the least usage.
It also reported a growth in the creation of cryotherapy and ice bath-themed playlists. When it comes to the songs included in the collection? Yes, you guessed it – Ice Ice Baby came up on top, followed by Foreigner's Cold as Ice. Idina Menzel's Let It Go from Frozen ranked fifth.
Yoga-related playlists are most popular in Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, the Czech Republic and Spain. The five nations have been dubbed as the "most zen".
As for "most active"? The five countries that use workout playlists from Spotify the most are Finland first, followed by Sweden, Ireland, United Kingdom and New Zealand.
