Abu Dhabi's popular Hindi radio station Radio Mirchi, home to contemporary and classic Bollywood pop hits and culture, will be rebranded as Kadak FM from Sunday.
The station will begin operations at 9am, on the same Radio Mirchi dials of 97.3FM in Abu Dhabi, 95.6FM in Al Ain and 88.8FM in Dubai.
Tracing its roots to the Indian subcontinent, the term “kadak” is referred to as an expression of joy and satisfaction. With that in mind, station head Sandeep Sud said the revamped offering will boast more local content, lots of cricketing action and vibrant new programmes, as well as retaining popular broadcasters and shows from Radio Mirchi.
“Our main focus through the new brand is to provide our audience with UAE-centric content and the best of Bollywood,” he said in statement released by Abu Dhabi Media, which runs the station.
“The offering will be underpinned by the 3Cs of entertainment – cinema, city and cricket – bringing the best of content, music, concerts and events to our listeners in the country.”
What’s on air?
The flagship weekday breakfast show Mirchi Mornings will now be called Kadak Mornings, with RJ Mohit still in the hosting chair. Running from 6am to 11am, the rebooted show will feature new segments, such as Sunny Side Up and Yallah, Let's Talk, which will focus on uplifting stories from the UAE and beyond.
Midday Mohabbat, with RJ Yachna, will return straight after the show. Running on weekdays from 11am to 2pm, it will retain its format of back-to-back love songs, only this time it will be spiced up with a dash of spoken-word poetry and celebrity interviews.
One show that will remain untouched is Total Filmi (2pm to 5pm). Hosted by RJ Nikki, the popular weekday show will continue to bring the latest Bollywood scoops and star-studded interviews.
The station also promises that Bumper to Bumper, from 5pm to 9pm, will return even funnier, with host RJ Vikrant's effort being described as "four hours of stand-up comedy."
Winding down weekday evenings, from 9pm to midnight, will once again be Purani Jeans. Hosted by the soothing baritone voice of RJ Fahad, the programme is an absolute favourite of Abu Dhabi's Indian community, with its wistful mix of classic hits from the golden age of Bollywood cinema.
Abu Dhabi Media's acting general manager, Abdul Raheem Al Bateeh Al Nuaimi, described Kadak FM as a new chapter in the company’s drive to service the UAE South Asian communities.
He said: “The launch of Kadak FM reflects ADM’s commitment to offering quality content, and will help further strengthen its position as an original content creator and leader.”

1. Build digital or technical skills: After graduation, people can find it extremely hard to find jobs. From programming to digital marketing, your early twenties are for building skills. Future employers will want people with tech skills.
2. Side hustle: At 16, I lived in a village and started teaching online, as well as doing work as a virtual assistant and marketer. There are six skills you can use online: translation; teaching; programming; digital marketing; design and writing. If you master two, you’ll always be able to make money.
3. Networking: Knowing how to make connections is extremely useful. Use LinkedIn to find people who have the job you want, connect and ask to meet for coffee. Ask how they did it and if they know anyone who can help you. I secured quite a few clients this way.
4. Pay yourself first: The minute you receive any income, put about 15 per cent aside into a savings account you won’t touch, to go towards your emergency fund or to start investing. I do 20 per cent. It helped me start saving immediately.

What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.

Who is Mohammed Al Halbousi?
The new speaker of Iraq’s parliament Mohammed Al Halbousi is the youngest person ever to serve in the role.
The 37-year-old was born in Al Garmah in Anbar and studied civil engineering in Baghdad before going into business. His development company Al Hadeed undertook reconstruction contracts rebuilding parts of Fallujah’s infrastructure.
He entered parliament in 2014 and served as a member of the human rights and finance committees until 2017. In August last year he was appointed governor of Anbar, a role in which he has struggled to secure funding to provide services in the war-damaged province and to secure the withdrawal of Shia militias. He relinquished the post when he was sworn in as a member of parliament on September 3.
He is a member of the Al Hal Sunni-based political party and the Sunni-led Coalition of Iraqi Forces, which is Iraq’s largest Sunni alliance with 37 seats from the May 12 election.
He maintains good relations with former Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki’s State of Law Coaliton, Hadi Al Amiri’s Badr Organisation and Iranian officials.
