BTS will give 'message of hope' speech at UN General Assembly

K-pop superstars BTS are returning to the United Nations General Assembly.

It's been announced that the seven-member group will deliver a message of hope on Wednesday at 9am (5pm GST) after being invited to be speak by the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security to talk about the difficulties future generations will face due to pandemic.

The initiative’s aim is to find ways to effectively respond to Covid-19 and other challenges to global health security, and involves 40 UN member states with South Korea, Denmark, Sierra Leone, Canada and Qatar as co-chairs.

This will be the second time that BTS have spoken at the UN General Assembly as they previously gave an address at the launch ceremony of Unicef's Generation Unlimited in 2018. The speech went viral as the boy band made an impassioned plea for young people to find their voices to help shape the future.

"I want to hear your voice, I want to hear your conviction. No matter where you're from, skin colour, gender identity, just speak yourself. Find your name [and] find your voice," said member, RM.

BTS were set to embark on a world tour prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Since then, they’ve found other ways to stay connected to fans through online concerts and by releasing new music. The band most recently performed on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (home) concert series.

Last month, the group made history as the first K-pop group to top the Billboard Hot 100 with their first English-language single, Dynamite. They've also announced plans to release a new album by the end of 2020.

“We are preparing an album for the second half of this year, but decided to first release a single because we wanted to reach our fans as soon as possible,” the group said on South Korean broadcasting app V Live. “Due to Covid-19, people around the world have been going through tough times and we wanted to share some positive energy with our fans.”

Muslim Council of Elders condemns terrorism on religious sites

The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the criminal attacks on religious sites in Britain.

It firmly rejected “acts of terrorism, which constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of houses of worship”.

“Attacking places of worship is a form of terrorism and extremism that threatens peace and stability within societies,” it said.

The council also warned against the rise of hate speech, racism, extremism and Islamophobia. It urged the international community to join efforts to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

How to become a Boglehead

Bogleheads follow simple investing philosophies to build their wealth and live better lives. Just follow these steps.

•   Spend less than you earn and save the rest. You can do this by earning more, or being frugal. Better still, do both.

•   Invest early, invest often. It takes time to grow your wealth on the stock market. The sooner you begin, the better.

•   Choose the right level of risk. Don't gamble by investing in get-rich-quick schemes or high-risk plays. Don't play it too safe, either, by leaving long-term savings in cash.

•   Diversify. Do not keep all your eggs in one basket. Spread your money between different companies, sectors, markets and asset classes such as bonds and property.

•   Keep charges low. The biggest drag on investment performance is all the charges you pay to advisers and active fund managers.

•   Keep it simple. Complexity is your enemy. You can build a balanced, diversified portfolio with just a handful of ETFs.

•   Forget timing the market. Nobody knows where share prices will go next, so don't try to second-guess them.

•   Stick with it. Do not sell up in a market crash. Use the opportunity to invest more at the lower price.
