Brit Awards 2019: Pink is the first international artist to receive Outstanding Contribution to Music award

One thing about Pink fans is that they are loyal. And many of the American pop singer's most fervent fans are in the United Kingdom, where she's had consistently sold-out tours over the past decade. Now the artist, 39, whose real name is Alecia Moore, will be honoured for that feat at the Brit Awards on February 21 when she will receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music award. It's the first time it's ever been given to an international artist, with previous winners including Blur, Paul McCartney, Spice Girls, Oasis and The Beatles. Pink will also be the first female solo artist to receive the accolade. The significance of the occasion is not lost on the What About Us singer, who will travel to London to receive the award. She said in a statement: "Since the beginning of my career the British fans have been some of the fiercest and loyal in the world. “I am humbled to receive this honour and be in the company of an illustrious group of British icons." The decision taken by the committee aims to expand the award's reach and recognise artists who have had an enduring relationship with the UK. The news comes just after Pink received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday to announce a new album, called Hurts To Be Human , is on its way. The lead single Walk Me Home will be released on February 22 (we have no doubt that she will debut it at the Brit Awards the day before) with the rest of her eighth studio album to be released around April. The album should be promoted through another lengthy world tour full of her rock theatrics and acrobatics – something the UAE experienced when she performed as part of the Abu Dhabi F1 After Race Concerts in 2017. Her trip to the capital was also a family affair. The singer posted a picture of her and daughter enjoying the cool breeze of Saadiyat Beach. This, clearly, is a woman with good taste.
