It is the season of gratitude for BTS fans.

The K-pop group celebrated the eight anniversary of its official fan-club, dubbed “The Army”, by releasing a YouTube video featuring seven songs sung solo by band members.

Released on Thursday, the video propelled #ThankyouBTS to become the world’s leading hashtag over the weekend.

With members singing amid various colourful backgrounds, the video features a mix of previous group and solo hits.

They include the RM sung Bicycle; Snow Flower by B; Jung Kook's official solo single Still with You; Hope World featuring J-Hope; as well as People and Filter by Agust D, and D-2 respectively.

After announcing the name of the fan club in a 2013 tweet, BTS celebrated the anniversary of its founding throughout the years.

In 2020, the occasion was marked with a selfie by member Jin on social media.

Breaking records and ruling the charts

The group’s pop culture domination shows no sign of abating.

On Friday, they released their much anticipated single Permission to Dance, another sun-kissed banger co-written by Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid from Northern Irish rockers Snow Patrol.

As the third English track of their career, Permission to Dance follows the success of predecessor Butter and Dynamite (released in May and August last year, respectively) by topping the Billboard Top 100 chart.

The group also broke their own YouTube record of 108.2 million views within 24 hours.

Dynamite received 101 million views in the same time period, which means BTS hold the No 1 and No 2 spots when it comes to the most-viewed music videos on YouTube in 24 hours.

BTS is also riding high on the international pop charts.

Their third Japanese compilation BTS The Best topped the charts in South Korea and Japan earlier this month.
