A collection of short films created by 18 international filmmakers will be coming to Netflix on Tuesday, June 30.
Titled Homemade, the series capture the personal stories of the auteurs while they're confined indoors amid the coronavirus pandemic. All are shot using equipment found at home.
The narratives vary from intimate diary pieces to short fictional tales across several genres, offering a creative take on a situation that has had a global impact.
Oscar-nominated filmmaker Nadine Labaki and Khaled Mouzanar are the only filmmakers from the region to take part in the project, in addition to names such as Kristen Stewart from Los Angeles, Ladj Ly from Montfermeil and Gurinder Chadha from London, among others.
"This question has been tormenting us as parents for a while: How are our children perceiving or living the confinement? What goes on in their minds?," said Labaki. "When the producers of Homemade contacted us to be part of this project it was the perfect occasion for us to explore this dimension."
The series is produced by The Apartment Pictures and Fabula.
"This project is a beautiful way to send a strong message of unity and resilience throughout the international creative community," said Lorenzo Mieli, chief executive of The Apartment Pictures, in a statement.
Juan de Dios Larrain, chief executive of Fabula, said: "Homemade is an invitation to a group of directors to explore creativity under the same conditions. It's quite democratic. This is not about resources, this is about the craft of filmmaking."
A donation in honour of each filmmaker will be made from Netflix's Hardship Fund to support third parties and non-profits to provide emergency relief to out-of-work crew and cast across the broader TV and film industry.
Homemade will be available on Netflix globally from Tuesday, June 30

Know your camel milk:
Flavour: Similar to goat’s milk, although less pungent. Vaguely sweet with a subtle, salty aftertaste.
Texture: Smooth and creamy, with a slightly thinner consistency than cow’s milk.
