It may have marked an exciting moment for Hollywood as the first in-person awards ceremony to take place since the start of the pandemic, but audiences at home were less enthused by this year's Golden Globes.
Ratings for the awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday night in a bi-coastal format for the first time, were down 50 per cent on the 2020 ceremony, according to audience data analyst Nielsen.
Early numbers show that NBC's live broadcast of the event averaged 5.42 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in key ad demographics of adults between the ages of 18 and 49. Those numbers are down by more than 60 per cent in 2020, the Hollywood Reporter states.
However, the early figures do not account for those watching from the Pacific time zone or watching outside of their homes. Those figures are set to be released on Tuesday.
This data does suggest, though, that it was the Golden Globes's smallest audience since it moved from television channel TBS to NBC in 1996.
The 78th Golden Globe Awards was the first hybrid show for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which had in-person ceremonies running simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles, and many of its stars dialling in from home.
In 2020, the ceremony was watched by 18.4 million viewers.
$1,000 award for 1,000 days on madrasa portal
Daily cash awards of $1,000 dollars will sweeten the Madrasa e-learning project by tempting more pupils to an education portal to deepen their understanding of math and sciences.
School children are required to watch an educational video each day and answer a question related to it. They then enter into a raffle draw for the $1,000 prize.
“We are targeting everyone who wants to learn. This will be $1,000 for 1,000 days so there will be a winner every day for 1,000 days,” said Sara Al Nuaimi, project manager of the Madrasa e-learning platform that was launched on Tuesday by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to reach Arab pupils from kindergarten to grade 12 with educational videos.
“The objective of the Madrasa is to become the number one reference for all Arab students in the world. The 5,000 videos we have online is just the beginning, we have big ambitions. Today in the Arab world there are 50 million students. We want to reach everyone who is willing to learn.”

Abdul Jabar Qahraman was meeting supporters in his campaign office in the southern Afghan province of Helmand when a bomb hidden under a sofa exploded on Wednesday.
The blast in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah killed the Afghan election candidate and at least another three people, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak told reporters. Another three were wounded, while three suspects were detained, he said.
The Taliban – which controls much of Helmand and has vowed to disrupt the October 20 parliamentary elections – claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mr Qahraman was at least the 10th candidate killed so far during the campaign season, and the second from Lashkar Gah this month. Another candidate, Saleh Mohammad Asikzai, was among eight people killed in a suicide attack last week. Most of the slain candidates were murdered in targeted assassinations, including Avtar Singh Khalsa, the first Afghan Sikh to run for the lower house of the parliament.
The same week the Taliban warned candidates to withdraw from the elections. On Wednesday the group issued fresh warnings, calling on educational workers to stop schools from being used as polling centres.
