The popular 1980s teenage book series Sweet Valley High is receiving a double revamp with an updated book series recently hitting the shelves and a film adaptation on the way. Here are five other teenage classics in need of revival.
Take Five... Saved by the Bell (1989-1993)
We follow the comedic exploits of Bayside High school students Zack, Screech, Slater, Lisa, Jessie and Kelly. Despite being slammed by the critics, the show's popularity grew with each series.
Take Four... My So-Called Life (1994-1995)
Set in Liberty High school, the critically acclaimed show tackled controversial social issues such as child abuse, underage drinking and school violence. The show was cancelled after one season due to poor ratings and series star Claire Dane's desire to move into film.
Take Three... Dawson's Creek (1998-2003)
Known for its self-consciously philosophical dialogue and teenage characters played by fully grown adults, Dawson's Creek pushed genre boundaries for its racy plots and its use of indie-music. The show went on to influence other teenage dramas including The OC, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl.
Take Two... Boy Meets World (1993-2000)
A comedic right-of-passage drama following the life of Cory Mathews (Ben Savage, brother of Fred, whose show The Wonder Years would be another candidate for a revival) from high-school student to married man.
Take One... Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)
Fifteen-year-old vampire slayer Buffy hunts vampires, demons and other forces of darkness while in high-school. The show's success created the spin-off Angel, which also proved to be a hit with audiences.
