Roger Housden attempts to break through this barrier with Saved by Beauty.
Newly single and facing the abyss of writer's block, the Anglo-American poet and novelist decides to pack his bags and travel to "the other Iran". His mission, he tells the reader, is to see whether the country matches up to the mystical fantasies of his youth.
Housden's journey takes him from antique shops to tea houses, from mosques to a police interrogation room. He discovers that despite the political turmoil and generational clashes that threaten Iranian society, the traditions of the nation's past are still evident today.
Written with a poetic eye, Saved by Beauty's lush prose is never overbearing. Instead, Housden allows us to look past the headlines and appreciate the beauty of everyday life in modern Iran.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
