Maktaba, the library management department at the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, has announced the reopening of public libraries in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, with visitors being able to borrow books on weekdays between 8am and 4pm.
This announcement includes the following libraries: Zayed Central Library, Al Mirfa Library, Al Bahia Library, Khalifa Park Library and Al Wathba Library, which will be opening their doors from Sunday to Thursday, operating at 30 per cent capacity only. The libraries will be closed on weekends, as well as on holidays and official occasions.
It's worth highlighting that users of the public libraries are also able to view archives of the digital library and borrow ebooks and audiobooks to read or listen to, using the Libby application that is available on Apple and Android devices, as well as Chromebooks. Use of the digital library is free and users do not need to connect to the Internet once borrowed via the app.
It is also possible to view or listen to ebooks using a desktop computer with an internet connection.
Access to the ebooks will automatically expire once the borrowing period ends, and as such the user will not be liable for any fines for their late return.
