The curious case of the monolith: a silver pillar has appeared on England's Isle of Wight

If you thought 2020 couldn't get any stranger, well, think again.

A mysterious monolithic pillar, similar to the ones spotted in the US and Romania, has now been discovered on the Isle of Wight in England, Sky News reports.

Tom Dunford told the broadcaster he was walking with his fiancee and sister on Compton Beach on Sunday, December 6, when they came across the silver metal structure.

Dunford described the three-sided monolith as 10 feet tall and "really reflective".

The discovery comes after a similar structure was unearthed and then removed in a remote US desert.

Last week, after visitors flocked to the site of one monolith in Utah, the structure was removed by an "unknown party", according to Utah’s Bureau of Land Management.

However, the incident was documented by photographer Ross Bernards who happened to be at the site when four men arrived and dismantled the pillar.

Elsewhere in the US, a monolith appeared in California, atop Pine Mountain in Atascadero, last week. However, according to numerous reports, several men live-streamed themselves tearing down the shiny three-sided structure and leaving a cross in its place.

A four-metre-tall monolith has also been spotted on Batca Doamnei Hill, in the Romanian city of Piatra Neamt.

People on social media have speculated who could be behind these structures, with some suggesting it's the work of a collection of artists while others assume it's the work of aliens.

However, no one has yet come forward to the claim the work as their own.
