There are a few days left to see the annual prize-winners exhibition at Dubai International Art Centre.
The work of six artists is on display in the centre, a large converted villa in Jumeirah and they are exhibited under the title Amoromina. The title is a blend of two Latin words which mean love and everything.
“The reason for the title is that it is a bit of everything from all our different artists,” explains Jeff Scofield, the curator of the show and director of Gallery 76, the centre’s internal gallery. “The show is always very different from one year to another. Here we have painting and sculpture.”
Beena Samuel, one of the painters, has used a mix of material and textures in her pieces and explored the themes of recycling and the position of the female. Two of her pieces will also be exhibited in The Big Picture exhibition next month.
Magdalena Hoogers, an artist from Belgium who also has some pieces going into The Big Picture, is interested in telling stories through her sculptural pieces. She has made a series of clay angels that can carry messages inside of them and an intriguing piece constructed from painted cotton.
Iranian artist Dianoush Abdolrazagh is showing a series of hyper realistic paintings and Australian Vivienne Mason, is exhibiting some watercolour still life pieces and oil painted landscapes.
“I have been influenced by all the countries I have lived in and I am inspired by the things I see. I also like to follow the work of Cezanne and any artist who uses bright colours.”
The other two artists are sculptors Zdenka Chamberland and Sylvie Lo. “I love to work for the joy of just making art,” says Chamberland.

The group was led by French shipping giant CMA CGM, which struck a 30-year contract in May with the Syrian government to develop and run Latakia port. Types of fraud
Phishing: Fraudsters send an unsolicited email that appears to be from a financial institution or online retailer. The hoax email requests that you provide sensitive information, often by clicking on to a link leading to a fake website.
Smishing: The SMS equivalent of phishing. Fraudsters falsify the telephone number through “text spoofing,” so that it appears to be a genuine text from the bank.
Vishing: The telephone equivalent of phishing and smishing. Fraudsters may pose as bank staff, police or government officials. They may persuade the consumer to transfer money or divulge personal information.
SIM swap: Fraudsters duplicate the SIM of your mobile number without your knowledge or authorisation, allowing them to conduct financial transactions with your bank.
Identity theft: Someone illegally obtains your confidential information, through various ways, such as theft of your wallet, bank and utility bill statements, computer intrusion and social networks.
Prize scams: Fraudsters claiming to be authorised representatives from well-known organisations (such as Etisalat, du, Dubai Shopping Festival, Expo2020, Lulu Hypermarket etc) contact victims to tell them they have won a cash prize and request them to share confidential banking details to transfer the prize money.

Tax authority targets shisha levy evasion
The Federal Tax Authority will track shisha imports with electronic markers to protect customers and ensure levies have been paid.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, director of the tax authority, on Sunday said the move is to "prevent tax evasion and support the authority’s tax collection efforts".
The scheme’s first phase, which came into effect on 1st January, 2019, covers all types of imported and domestically produced and distributed cigarettes. As of May 1, importing any type of cigarettes without the digital marks will be prohibited.
He said the latest phase will see imported and locally produced shisha tobacco tracked by the final quarter of this year.
"The FTA also maintains ongoing communication with concerned companies, to help them adapt their systems to meet our requirements and coordinate between all parties involved," he said.
As with cigarettes, shisha was hit with a 100 per cent tax in October 2017, though manufacturers and cafes absorbed some of the costs to prevent prices doubling.

UK's plans to cut net migration
Under the UK government’s proposals, migrants will have to spend 10 years in the UK before being able to apply for citizenship.
Skilled worker visas will require a university degree, and there will be tighter restrictions on recruitment for jobs with skills shortages.
But what are described as "high-contributing" individuals such as doctors and nurses could be fast-tracked through the system.
Language requirements will be increased for all immigration routes to ensure a higher level of English.
Rules will also be laid out for adult dependants, meaning they will have to demonstrate a basic understanding of the language.
