Tashkeel, the art and design organisation in Dubai, has announced its summer programme, which includes virtual courses and live lectures as well as at-home activities for children.

The summer activity box will allow little ones to develop their creative skills as part of a different theme each week, with the programme running through to September.

Suitable for ages 8 to 12, these do-it-yourself kits, delivered straight to homes, will explore a range of processes, including printmaking, weaving, traditional animation and mask-making, among others.

The boxes cost Dh275 each, and are available from Saturday, July 4.

Tashkeel will also launch its first online course for adults, together with arts writer and consultant Kevin Jones. The course is divided into three sections and teaches participants how to use writing as a tool for creativity.

"Artists Working Through Crisis intends to spark frank and liberating conversations in a safe space, focusing on inputs and lived experiences rather than pressuring towards outputs and elusive productivity," the event page details.

The programme also includes two live lectures: the first, on Monday, June 22, will be held by Portuguese artist Ines Neto dos Santos, who will discuss the process of fermentation. The second, on Monday, July 20, will be hosted by Sandra Piesik and focus on the use of arish, also known as date palm leaves, in art and design.

“The Tashkeel summer season aims to nurture curiosity and experimentation while pushing the boundaries of making," said Lisa Ball-Lechgar, deputy director of Tashkeel in a statement. "Fostering growth, encouraging personal development and developing our community in new ways are among the aims of Tashkeel’s summer programme."

Tashkeel reopened its doors on Monday, June 1 for members only. It hasn't announced when the space will be open to the public again.
