Louvre Abu Dhabi will go avant-garde this autumn with an exhibition celebrating the Parisian art scene that lit up the first half of the 20th century in Europe. <em>Rendezvous in Paris: Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani & Co (1900-1939)</em> features more than 80 works by artists such as Constantin Brancusi, Tamara de Lempicka and Chaim Soutine. <strong>See a preview of some of the works that will be on display in our gallery above.</strong> The exhibition, a collaboration between <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/art/10-hidden-treasures-to-seek-out-when-visiting-louvre-abu-dhabi-1.772422">Louvre Abu Dhabi</a> and Centre Pompidou and the first in the Changing Societies season, aims to explore the impact of emigrant artists living in Paris, many of whom left their home countries and travelled to the French capital in the years after the First World War. These artists produced some of the best-known works of the 20th century, full of radical shapes and bold colours, and transformed Paris into a vibrant creative community. <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/picasso-s-never-before-exhibited-lady-to-show-her-face-in-abu-dhabi-1.299015">Picasso</a>'s <em>Woman Seated in an Armchair</em> (1910) will hang alongside Chagall's <em>To Russia, Asses and Others</em> (1911) and Modigliani's <em>Portrait of</em> <em>Dedie</em> (1918). "We are confident that <em>Rendezvous in Paris: Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani & Co</em> will be a blockbuster exhibition," said Manuel Rabate, director of Louvre Abu Dhabi. "For the first time ever in Abu Dhabi, residents and visitors will be able to see works by Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani, Delaunay, Lipchitz and other masters in a show encompassing the key movements of 20th century Modern art." Christian Briend, chief curator and head of modern collections at Musee National d’art Moderne, Centre Pompidou, added: “Of particular meaning to me in this project is the fact that we are showcasing the contributions of foreigners, starting with Picasso who dominates the art of this time and including many others, making this an exhibition about cosmopolitanism and its virtues.” The exhibition, which runs from Wednesday, September 18 until Saturday, December 7, will be accompanied by interactive experiences that allow visitors to step inside Brancusi’s studio and retrace some of these artists' journeys to Paris. Added to this, there will be a family weekend on September 27 to 28, featuring films, workshops and activities inspired by the works on display, as well as an electro night under Louvre Abu Dhabi’s dome on Thursday, November 21, with sets from local and international DJs and Cubism-inspired visuals. <em>Rendezvous in Paris: Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani & Co (1900-1939) runs from September 18-December 7 at Louvre Abu Dhabi.
