As part of the non-profit programme Art Dubai Projects, Maitha Demithan is creating a live portrait of the fair using her scanography technique.
Yesterday I had the pleasure and honour of being scanned by the Emirati artist who is undoubtedly one of the rising home-grown stars of the UAE’s art world. Today, I will find out if my image made the final cut into her slowly expanding composite image that she projects onto the back wall of her booth situated in between the two contemporary gallery halls.
The simplicity and spontaneity of this project and the way in which Maitha uses her skilled eye to hone in on the most visually appealing parts of her subjects, makes this small black booth one of my favourite places at the fair.
