First official pictures of Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's wedding released

Actress Alia Bhatt posted the first pictures from her wedding to actor Ranbir Kapoor on Instagram on Thursday.

“Today, surrounded by our family and friends, at home … in our favourite spot — the balcony we’ve spent the last 5 years of our relationship — we got married," she captioned a series of eight pictures.

"With so much already behind us, we can’t wait to build more memories together … memories that are full of love, laughter, comfortable silences, movie nights, silly fights, delights and Chinese bites. Thank you for all the love and light during this very momentous time in our lives," she wrote. "It has made this moment all the more special. Love, Ranbir and Alia.”

The radiant newlyweds both wore cream and gold Sabyasachi outfits for their wedding ceremony, a refreshing change from other Bollywood brides in the past few years, who have all opted for a similar aesthetic and outfits in varying shades of red.

According to Sabyasachi, Bhatt wore a hand-dyed ivory organza sari embroidered with fine tilla work, and an embroidered tissue veil. The sari was paired with Sabyasachi Heritage jewellery, featuring uncut diamonds and pearls, including a large kundan choker, earrings, a matching mathapatti (head ornament) and a stack of bangles on each arm.

The groom, meanwhile, wore an embroidered silk sherwani with uncut diamond buttons, paired with a silk organza safa or turban, a shawl featuring zari marori embroidery, topped off with hand-strung pearls.

While not much can be seen of the decor, from the pictures it appears the couple opted for a relatively toned-down colour theme.

The bride and groom were styled by popular Bollywood stylist Ami Patel and Bhatt’s long time make-up artist Puneet B Saini was behind the minimal look the bride opted for.

A number of Bollywood celebrities, including members of the Kapoor family, also shared the official pictures on their social media, congratulating the newlyweds.

The couple also made an appearance for the paparazzi who have been camped outside their wedding venue Vastu, Kapoor’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai, for the past few days, and the groom carried his bride back into their home to much cheering.

On Thursday morning, the bride’s mother, Soni Razdan, and sister Shaheen Bhatt and half-brother Rahul Bhatt, as well as the groom’s mother, Neetu Kapoor, and sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, were spotted arriving at Vastu for the haldi and chooda rituals before the wedding.

Haldi is a ceremony during which turmeric paste is applied on the bride for glowing skin, and chooda is a Punjabi ritual in which the bride puts on a set of white and red bangles that she will continue to wear for about a month after the wedding.

The groom’s sister was spotted in a gold Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga, while his cousin and actress Kareena Kapoor Khan was seen in a light pink Manish Malhotra saree.

Other famous members of the Kapoor clan, including Babita, Randhir and Karisma Kapoor; Nikhil and Navya Nanda; Rima, Aadar, Armaan and Anissa Jain; Kareena and Saif Ali Khan were also at the wedding venue.
